About the Characters
Suling
One of the island’s record-keepers, 16-year-old Suling is impetuous and stubborn, rebelling against rules she feels were unfairly set to hold her back. Suling yearns for a life of action and adventure, not quite understanding the sacrifice she’ll have to make to achieve her dreams.
Nadia
Nadia is one of the fearsome Water Tigers, the hidden island’s first line of defense. Trained to be a soldier, Nadia feels conflicted when she realises that protecting those she loves might also mean becoming a person that scares her.
Aunt Lian Neo
Aunt Lian Neo leads the women on the hidden Tiger island with a firm hand. One of the key leaders during the rebellion on the mainland, she holds many secrets and will stop at nothing to keep the people under her watch safe.
Auntie Fatimah
The heart of the island, Auntie Fatimah watches over the children in the creche as well as young Tiger Girls who have a tendency to get themselves into trouble. Quiet yet formidable, she is a skilled tactician who knows when to step up – but also when to back down.
Coconut
No one knows how Coconut found her way to the island. She first appeared as a tiny, bedraggled kitten, but now reigns with an imperious paw (or so she thinks). When she’s not napping in a sunbeam, she can be found tipping over inkwells in the library.
